Business Tech Tip: Protect Your Data; Redundancy, Two Hard Drives,
Array Controller, RAID 5, Software Mirroring, Employee Downtime, Loss of

Protect Your Data: Redundancy is Key
What hard disk redundancy is running in your server(s) to ensure critical
data is always available? Every server should have some sort of
redundancy.
The best redundancy would be to add two more hard drives and an Array
Controller (thus utilizing RAID 5). A less-costly alternative solution
is to simply add one additional hard drive (utilizing software mirroring.)
Should a drive fail, RAID 5 is able to continue operations with no
interruption in service. This second option of mirroring two hard
drives; requires hands-on adjustments to bring the server back on line in
the event of a primary drive failure; resulting in increased employee
downtime, lost productivity, and labor costs.
