Crossroads Business Solutions is pleased to announce fantastic news for all
Verizon wireless customers who want to make the most of
their time out of the office or "on the road".
Verizon, with the introduction of the Treo 700w Smartphone,
provides users
fast, automatic
wireless
updates of their email, calendar items, contacts and
tasks, while allowing in-house IT managers to deliver this information
directly from their
Exchange Server 2003 SP2 without incurring
additional third-party infrastructure costs.
This new technology allows IT administrators to control
and protect the mobile device
directly from the Exchange server.
Key Features of MSFP
technology on Microsoft mobile phones/PDAs:
Recently, Microsoft released Exchange
SP2,
shortly followed by the Active Sync Web administration
which provided the technology needed on the server
end.
The technology needed on the
mobile device end, Accessory Kit
Upgrade 2 (AKU2) with Messaging and
Security Feature Pack (MSFP) is now available with the Treo 700w for Verizon Wireless.
Additional brands and models are beginning to be
released by device manufacturers and other wireless service providers.
Key Features of MSFP
technology on Microsoft mobile
phones/PDAs include:
- Direct Push Email Technology that enables the Treo 700w to
automatically receive email, calendar, contacts and tasks
wirelessly as soon as it arrives on Exchange Server 2003 SP2
- Open MS Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents for review on
your PDA when on the road without booting up your laptop
- Over-the-air lookup of a company's Exchange Global Address
List (GAL), providing employees with quick access to colleagues'
email and contact information
- Added security features for IT administrators,
such as over-the-air device password policy enforcement
and remote wipe of the device in case it is lost or
stolen
Business Impact and Issues of Exchange SP2 and MSFP
Technology for Small & Medium Size Businesses
This is a direct assault on the Blackberry which
requires a server, software and ongoing license and user
fees. Blackberry will see a fall in market-share.
Microsoft will see a surge in server upgrades,
specifically in the small and medium size business (SMB)
markets. Small and medium sized businesses can now
take advantage of this new capability to
improve data access, data security, and employee
productivity.
Cell phones / PDAs become a component of the business
infrastructure. Business leaders need to set policy and
address additional costs that will include data plans,
cell phone plans, user training and support, repair and
maintenance. Standardization on one or two devices is a
first step in keeping support and training costs under
control.
Contact Scott Cunningham to
discuss utilizing this cutting edge technology within your organization.
(Note:
Other wireless carriers (Cingular, T-Mobile, etc) are moving
quickly to provide more phones and PDAs that can match
the TREO capabilities.
